What Matters Now?

By November 17, 2025No Comments

In this current evolutionary era, we have been both challenged & blessed to witness and experience ‘life as we know it’ falling apart. Personally, and globally, nothing is static. Life’s flow of change has seemed to speed up, especially this year. It appears that there’s nothing tangible to rely on. For many, the rate of change has been intense – a process to live with rather than get through. I include myself in that. If I look back one year, my life now may look similar on the surface, but the way I live has changed utterly. Once more, there’s been a demand to deeply let go, not only of my habits, but some things in my life that I love & enjoy.

When under pressure, the human tendency is to fight & struggle on, to give up, or alternate between the two. Awareness of how we flow between these states as individuals is a growing aspect of our evolution.

There is a place for determination, resourcefulness & commitment in our lives. Yet awareness is required too – when does strength become resistance, or determination become inflexibility? Surrender is a necessary quality too. Yet it’s a fine line between recognising an impasse and willingly letting go, or simply giving up. One is powerfully aligned with trust in a bigger picture than personal perspective or capacity, the other is rooted in powerlessness.

This upcoming New Moon at 28 Scorpio at 06.47GMT on 20 November offers a gathering up of what we’ve been challenged with this year. Scorpio is the sign that carries deep resourcefulness in facing the shadows of life; it’s where grit and grace meet as resilience. It’s where we transform & rise from the ashes of our former self. It’s where, through a lifetime’s experience (or even a week’s), we discover the growing integrity of being oneself.

The word “integrity” stems from the Latin integer, meaning “whole” or “complete”. In psychology and philosophy, integrity involves the process of becoming a coherent, harmonious self, able to resolve internal conflict through self-knowledge and awareness of our deepest values. The term “integration” shares this same root, meaning the act of bringing parts together into a unified whole.

Integrity is a word I associate with the highest expression of the water sign Scorpio, for it is the potential outcome of travelling deep into our emotional shadows with self-honesty. Scorpio wants to discover the psychological truth of its deepest challenges, to get to the bottom of whatever the issue is. In this, in its shadow, it can be relentless & ruthless. At its optimum however, it can deliver a phoenix-like rebirth.

The Scorpio gift of self-awareness is arising at this New Moon, if we don’t judge what we’re seeing about our self’s behaviour. Scorpio perception allows us to recognise & let go of habits, false comfort zones & beliefs in the process of self-maturing. It’s the natural composting process of ‘growing up’, even in our mature years. As we face the ‘endings & beginnings nature’ of this current period through to Spring 2026, the aspects of this New Moon offer honesty tempered with self-kindness & compassion, soulful forgiveness & the grounding of expanded awareness. It’s the potential blessing of presence with the whole of yourself including what you habitually reject or deny.

In many ways, this New Moon has the qualities of a Full Moon.

The Scorpio line-up of Sun, Moon, Mercury Rx & Black Moon Lilith has the potential to be highly enlightening. Cycles within cycles are both completing & beginning. An opposition to Awakener Uranus Rx in earthy Taurus may reveal sticking points, old patterns & habits you’ve outgrown. Maybe they are the last-ditch attempt to soothe yourself or find some security in a changing world, yet right now the spotlight highlights their ineffectiveness.

With Scorpio standing for our passions & Taurus representing our pleasures, it’s worthwhile exploring any feelings of stagnation in your life. Where has pleasure become over-indulgence as a comfort? How might any compulsions be fine-tuned with softness & compassion, or clearer boundaries? Perhaps there’s a need to refresh what you enjoy, despite any current challenges? To cultivate an allowance of pleasure as a grounded response to the enjoyment of being in a body?

Both Scorpio & Taurus are fixed in nature so can reveal sticking points in our evolutionary potential. Human beings derive a certain security from habits, yet they also can dull our perceptions and true enjoyment of life.

In these times, the fact of change, and therefore insecurity, is looming large. We are moving from dependence on material physicality and/or belief/habit as our comfort blanket into the true knowing & presence of ourselves as consciousness, being divinely human. The need for stability is calling to be rooted in new ways, in ways of self-care & Earth connection that truly nourish & support ourselves & respect all life.

Right now, it’s truly important to recognise, acknowledge & celebrate your resilience in the face of adversity. Yet also, where appropriate, to acknowledge what you are still invested in that is no longer valuable. In my life, I’m seeing a key habit that is no longer relevant in any way. My experience this year is delivering deeply changing values now. What matters to me is different. It’s time to live more fully rooted. How about you?
