The upcoming dynamic Full Moon in Aries opens the themes of Black Moon Lilith’s passage through Capricorn for the next nine months. It calls for movement: shifts or action (through a Cardinal T-square & Grand Cross). Where that movement comes from – what aspect & expression of self – is a key question.
Moon in Aries with Neptune in this dynamic can indicate an abdication of responsibility, being anonymous, disappearing when challenged by the pressure of choices, circumstances, or experience. Or discovering the bigger picture of surrendering personal agenda – what I want – to a deeper truth; one that serves love. Sun in Libra in opposition can suggest compromise or accommodation of another’s demands, being sweetness & light because it’s uncomfortable to be otherwise. Or a capacity to embrace differing aspects of a dilemma & find resolution. In this, Lilith in Capricorn is the catalyst for powerful insight into agenda, the distortions behind our actions/reactions, especially when faced with power & authority issues: the agenda or ‘rules’ of others, or the culture. This blog could well be called ‘Whose Authority?’
Lilith’s mythology represents evolution beyond reactivity into our deepest authentic response. Created as equal to Adam yet not honoured as such by him, Lilith took herself into the desert. Although entreated by God via angels to return to Adam, she would not compromise. Perhaps her desire was that Adam be man enough to step up in presence & meet her? Don’t we know this play in relating?
Did Lilith go too far in rebelling? Did she cut off her nose to spite her face? Did her actions engender shame or feelings of being ‘outlawed’? These are themes we face in gender issue dynamics both personally & collectively. Yet this mythology reflects much more than gender issues. Fundamentally it’s about the power of truth-telling, and the awareness of ‘Where am I choosing from?’ Authenticity or fear?
What does developing one’s own authority mean? For me, it’s about authenticity – being rooted in the wisdom of a lifetime’s experience. It’s knowing what is the deepest truth of the moment. It’s the quiet power of presence of Self within self. It doesn’t adhere to cultural rules about how I must/should be. It’s hard-won through facing the shadows of feeling exposed, out on a limb, rejection, shame or humiliation for speaking up or acting outside the often-unspoken rules.
Lilith in us cannot bear fake authority; she will turn her whole being away from it, often in extreme ways, or she will challenge it. Reactivity either way can create mayhem yet it’s also a signpost. In noticing where it points, we may engage open honest enquiry into power agendas, into feelings of powerlessness, potentially with another.
This Full Moon (& Lilith’s passage through Capricorn for nine months) can deliver revelations about loosening up our reactions & their effects within our lives, especially in partnership. It’s about connecting to an evolving authentic fullness of individuality.
