The New Moon at 9 Aquarius rises at 12.35GMT on Wednesday 29 January.
There are times in our lives when everything is quiet, as in winter the activity is more inward or home-based. Then there are times when new life begins to stir. As with nature, this can be a serene emergence, vital and stormy, or in fits and starts. We’re about to enter the tentative beginnings of what might be termed ‘energetic spring.’
New beginnings occur every month when the moon is new. The moon represents how we feel, our rhythms (and those of nature) and our habits, so this monthly starting point is subtle compared to the larger planetary phases. This New Moon is no different however it’s combined with two outer planets changing direction. We feel a stirring of new life. What has been quiet or simply gestating begins to gain impetus.
Where we have been treading water, or lacking drive and energy, we feel a shift. Right now, its direction and value are subtle though. You can’t quite see the way forward perhaps?
There is learning for our ego in energetic spring. As energy rises, it’s vital to appreciate the tenderness of a new season. How its energy is erratic unless it establishes roots, firstly in ourselves, then in our lives. This requires us to be consciously awake to how we use energy, where we push, become inspired or get over-excited then exhaust our resources. It’s not about holding back – what can hold back spring when the environment is just perfect? It is about soul listening. ‘What is truly of value?’ is a pertinent question.
The planets activated at this New Moon and within this coming week, are Awakener Uranus and Blessing-giver Jupiter. Uranus is the planet of the innovator, scientist, rebel and humanitarian and is ruler of the New Moon. This strengthens the Aquarian Moon qualities of insight, inventiveness, and community orientation.
Uranus begins to move forward just one day after the moon is new. When Uranian energy is strong we begin to feel a stirring, maybe a restlessness or the desire to move just for the sake of it. It’s the planet of revelation and surprises so adaptability and space are key. There’s a feeling of needing to be on the ball perhaps. Uranus teaches us that what we plan is often broken by life’s forces of change.
The stirring we feel with Uranus is universal ie. big picture, rather than personal one, though at times we feel it strongly without doubt. We are the universal rhythms in human form after all. As planet of personal will, drive, and initiative Mars is still retrograde, it’s wise to engage this uprising energy in small ways. It’s time to conserve this precious new life energy as well as flow with it. Asteroid Priestess Vesta in Scorpio in square aspect to the New Moon calls us to test our activity against what’s deeply of value to us. To flow between inner stillness, rest and replenishment, and external activity in healthy conscious ways. To move yet do it with emotional intelligence.
As Uranus slowly gains momentum, Blessing-giver Jupiter begins to move forward in the sign of Gemini on 4 February. Like Aquarius, Gemini is an air sign. It’s more personally known however, ruling the rational mind, facts and information, communication, teaching and learning, and short journeys.
Gemini is a playful sign; its movement is fast and changeable like our thoughts. When this sign is strong, or in its shadow, we are easily distracted and scattered. As Jupiter, planet of expansion and potential excess, changes direction in free-as-a-bird Gemini, curiosity about future possibilities becomes activated. We want to feel motivated, lighter and brighter, be more social, have fun or travel. It could have you running out of steam though.
With the lightness of air signs in focus over this next week, we’re blessed with feeling that change is imminent. The risk is allowing your mind to run the show rather than be the servant of soulful possibility. It is time to gently emerge from winter sleep. Like a bear emerging from hibernation, we might be hungry for fresh growth. With the Lunar North Node just arriving in Pisces, there’s a calling to allow new life to emerge naturally though, to move in a gentle tempo right now. With personal planets Mercury and Venus turning retrograde in March and straddling the Equinox point of the zodiac, there’s much more to be revealed yet about soulful new values, ways of being and emerging possibilities. After all, trees grow slowly…
