The Necessity of Beauty

By October 20, 2025No Comments

The experience of beauty is highly personal, yet it can be shared. What attracts us, what we are moved by, may be different to another’s, yet we all know beauty’s heart-opening quality. For a moment, we are stopped in our tracks. It may reach us through the sparkle of light on the ocean, the way someone moves, nature’s glorious display, or a smile. Beauty may touch us through any of our senses. We are transported beyond the mundane, beyond our self with its problems. We are taken beyond our culture’s plastic ideas of beauty into soul connection.

Beauty reminds us of life’s infinite possibility to open us with hope, joy, and the best of what it is to be alive in a human body.

The New Moon at 28 Libra emerges at 13.25BST on Tuesday 21 October. Libra is the sign that loves beauty and whose endeavour is to create it. Beauty as connection, as harmony, balance & grace. Being an air sign, Libra seeks to lighten & uplift. In intense times of change, a Libra New Moon offers us the opportunity to refocus on the beauty of life. This can be difficult when life is challenging, yet to do so is essential. Not as an escape from challenge, or the spiritualisation of our difficulties, but to reconnect and affirm to what is true in us. For every day we are blessed with small miracles.

Aspects to this New Moon point us particularly towards awareness of mental & emotional habits that undermine our awareness of life’s blessings. It calls us to consciously pull ourselves out of hopelessness, apathy, & victim consciousness as the antidote to all that is terrible in our world.

It asks, “Does your being unhappy, or angry, or lazy about your consciousness, help the world?’ Of course, it doesn’t. It asks you to be the light-bearer, not in denial of your own suffering or our world’s challenges, but because of them. Bringing awareness of the true light in yourself into the world is a precious antidote to all that is unconscious in our world. It feeds the greater light of consciousness that is so needed.

This New Moon also delivers a deep feeling flow that can open compassion, understanding and our intuitive gifts. You might find yourself deeply moved by the plight of another; you may recognise how kindness is such a healing balm; you may see self-compassion as the key your own deepest wounding. These aspects also point towards self-sabotage through self-rejection: ‘not allowed’; ‘can’t be bothered’ and so on. How your focus on ‘what’s wrong’ (with self, another, or life) can make life grey. Whatever you notice, conscious choice is called for.

How may you create more moments of beauty? What shift in your mental emotional habits is required? How do you self-betray through negativity? A shift can occur through simply taking a walk in the park & really looking at what’s around you. Refocus can happen simply through taking a deep breath.

How can you contribute to your own happiness? How might you uplift yourself? What element of our world’s beauty is calling you? Music, art, nature, children, a conversation…This New Moon calls you to act on it! Make a conscious choice to involve yourself in the beauty of life that is always there as a potential, waiting to be discovered.
